Matýseks rescue dog exam...
3. 10. 2010
The last four days we spent with Matýsek in the Hungarian town of Jászberény where INTERNATIONAL RESCUE DOG EXAMS were held. The journey was long, so we already set out on Thursday so that we had enough time for practice and preparation.
Even a few days before departure I thought that we will not go because I broke and disjointed my little toe and could not walk. Luckily, my doctor recommended ice packing and I have to say it worked marvellously. The pain was gone and we could start our journey.
Five hours later we arrived at the dogs exercise ground in Jászberény. We were surprised by the pleasant environment and the atmosphere. It was also god that rubble, obedience and dexterity were all at the same place next to each other.
Rubble work was on the programme on Friday and it was different from what we were used to. There was real rubble in Hungary which we do not have at home and it turned out to be quite difficult for our dogs. We got 142 points, which is not great but, considering that Maty and I saw it for the first time, we can be glad for this result. Our weakness was that Maty and I were not able to plan our work. Maty was confused while searching and I was navigating him in a confused way, so the result was clear. Nevertheless, we were praised by the judge for the barking out - he liked the intensity and endurance with which Matýsek was signalling the people. I was in low spirits after this discipline, because Matýsek is usually really good at terrain work. However, when I watched the other dogs at work, I am glad that Matýsek fulfilled the limit.
On Saturday, dexterity was on the programme. I was a little worried, because hurdles are slightly different everywhere and the ones in Hungary were different from those we use at home. But I was satisfied after this day - he did great on the hurdles and cooperated and it seemed that he really enjoyed the discipline. Here we got 37 points (we did badly in carrying by a strange person, because I handed Maty over badly and he slipped between the hands of the other person and fell through the ladder on the last rung).
On Sunday, obedience was on the programme. We were already quite tired and exhausted. We came on in the afternoon. I have to say that I did badly in this discipline, Maty also made a few "howlers" and it set me off balance so that the overall result was not great. However, Maty sprang in for rescue and showed that he knows well what needs to be done... We got 37 points there.
I am really proud of Maty, even though there are still relatively numerous mistakes and we still have room for improvement. These were demanding four days and I am glad that we had the opportunity to live through them with our colleagues rescuers who supported us and stood behind us. We would not manage it WITHOUT YOU ALL and we are honoured to be your friends.
And regarding the exam?
The organisation was amazing, the time schedule was adhered to and the atmosphere was more than pleasant. For us, these were four days of gaining an incredible amount of experience and also knowledge about what we have to work on. MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE!!!
I would also like to thank my husband and my parents who were so nice that they looked after the puppies for the whole four days!!! Thank you so much, I would not manage without you.
