We were scheduled to start our first competition on Saturday but we already arrived on Thursday in order to really enjoy the atmosphere.
On Friday, we wanted to relax mentally so we set out on a hike in the Slovak mountains. Maty went on a cableway for the first time but he was very brave and looked down from the cabin at the beauty which opened before our eyes. I was glad that Maťa was really enjoying himself at the top of Donovaly and he even found a few quails to point.
Our big day started on Saturday. Our first discipline was a so-called KING DISCIPLINE - searching in rubble. He managed this discipline in a big style when he got 195 points out of 200. In our category, only 3 dogs out of 8 succeeded in this discipline. The next day, skills and obedience were on the programme. In skills, Matýsek got 44 points out of 50. Our feeling that we were in first place was warming our hearts. Nevertheless, the last part of the exam changed our fortunes. Everything went according to plan in obedience (yes, there were minor mistakes in exercises which we know we have to work on) but Matýsek's obedience was only average. The very last exercise was long laying-aside which went well until 10 seconds before the end when Matýsek got up and went to me. Because of this we were awarded 30 points out of 50 from the referee and thus did not accumulate the necessary 35 points which we needed (long laying aside was worth 10 points).
There were some "tears" running since I knew that we were only 10 seconds away from victory in our first big exams.
Even though we unfortunately do not have the exam, I am proud of Matýsek and think that we managed more than was expected from us and we will not give up. We will try to improve what we know we can improve and will work hard to succeed next time!!! Photo ...
